Our Environmental Stewardship

Here at Poet, our approach is grounded in a deep respect for nature and a commitment to thoughtful, sustainable creation. In this, we are inspired by the principle of kaitiakitanga - a commitment to care for and protect the environment for future generations. We believe that what we take from the earth should be honoured through intention, and restraint - formulating in small batches using high-quality botanical ingredients chosen for both their efficacy and integrity.

Guided by a quiet sense of environmental stewardship, we consider each step of our process - from sourcing and formulation to packaging and production - with the aim of minimising our impact.

We always prioritise natural materials, responsible suppliers, and low-waste practices, using recyclable and reusable packaging to extend the life of every component beyond its first use.

PACKAGING

We use intentionally minimise the packaging used for our products. We don't use additional boxes with the exception of our cotton drawstring bags used in our apothecary style candle.

We use recycable boxes and biodegradable packing and packing tape to send all orders.

CANDLE REFILLERY

In an effort to ensure candle vessels are used more than once, we offer a candle refill service from our Wellington studio. This service not only promote the re-use of candle vessels but is an opportunity for new customers to discover the beauty of natural essential oil candles versus a fragranced candle.

We continue to refine our processes as we learn of new and better ways to do things. Our priority will aways be to respect nature and all the magic it gifts us.

NEXT STEPS

In the next 12 months we plan to work with Terracycle to dispose of the plastic tops and inserts from the essential oil bottles we receive.  We currently wash all of our amber bottles (if not re-using) to ensure they can be recycled.
